Mark Turgeon Takes Maryland Job

by Las Vegas Legend, James Jones on May 10, 2011

Four days after legendary basketball coach Gary Williams stepped down, the Maryland Terapains announced that Texas A&M’s Mark Turgeon would succeed Williams as head coach.

Turgeon said he felt he had take advantage of being offered a job with the tradition and history of Maryland.

Nevertheless, Turgeon will certainly have his hands full.  Williams’ announcement came just a day after forward Jordan Williams announced that he would stay in the NBA Draft.  Plus, mediocre recruiting by Gary Williams over the last few years has left the cuppard at Maryland extremely bare.

You can win at Maryland though and Williams is living proof of that.  Williams in the 90s and early 2000s competed annually with Duke and North Carolina for conference supremacy reaching the pinnacle in 2002 by winning the national title.  The key for Turgeon will be outrecruiting Georgetown’s John Thompson III for DC and Baltimore area prospects.  But, the facilities and support are there.  Turgeon can win big as a Terp.
