I have to admit I was not too wild about the 1st round of the NBA playoffs going 7 games. Let’s be honest half of the teams already get in to the postseason, and to allow teams such as the Lakers, Celtics, and Heat waste energy playing teams who have no shot making a run was a joke.
But, these games continue to be more and more competitve and many of these 1st serieses go 6 ot 7 games and bring tons of excitement to towns such as Portland and Memphis who need some life in their only professonial franchises. Memphis shockingly leads #2 seeded San Antonio in the best of seven 2-1 after a 25 point performance from Zach Randolph.
Even better how about Portland’s masterful rally from 18 point down at the start of the 4th quarter to stun the Dallas Mavericks and knot the series at two a piece. Brandon Roy was masterful down the stretch hitting two clutch 4th quarter shots inside of a minute to give Portland the win.
For someone as skeptical about this new playoff format as me, the NBA has hit a homerun.
