Vick Haters Move On

by Las Vegas Legend, James Jones on January 6, 2011

Michael Vick’s story is one that is complicated, but it is time to let it go.

I think that Vick is a tremendous athlete, and an elite NFL QB.  He has shown in his season with the Eagles that he is, and always was, a capable NFL QB, despite not being a prototypical pocket passer.

It also shows how great a coach Andy Reid is, and how terrible a coach Jim Mora, Jr. was.  Jim Mora, by the way, is a clown in addition to being a poor coach.

Michael Vick really hurt the Falcons’ franchise, but for one year.  We all know about the Vick dog fighting saga and the embarrassment that led to Bobby Petrino’s cowardly midnight dash.

But it wasn’t a death kneel.   Arthur Blank proved why he is one of the best owners in the NFL.  He removed Rich McKay from being General Manager and brought in Mike Smith and Thomas Dimitroff.  The Falcons drafted a franchise QB (although I was of the opinion at first the Falcons should have gotten Glenn Dorsey or Darren McFadden, but that was why I wasn’t hired as GM).  Today, the Falcons are the top seed in the NFC playoffs, 7-2 favorites to win the Super Bowl and are having the franchise’s most successful 3 year run.

The Falcons have not only drafted well, but also brought in veterans Michael Turner, John Abraham and future Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez.

And we know to the nth degree about Vick, and his comeback season in Philadelphia.  But folks need to lay off Vick.  He has sinned, he has paid the price.  He served two years in Federal Prison (stupid, in my opinion) and has rehabilitated and re-entered the workforce as productive member of society.

I think it is time to let the sleeping dog lay (yes, pun intended and I just couldn’t refuse).

Especially washed up talking heads who are on their third network.

Tucker Carlson, in a tirade more against President Obama, criticized the President’s comments commending the Eagles for giving Vick a second chance.

Here is where Carlson really started to stretch:

But Michael Vick killed dogs, and he did [it] in a heartless and cruel way. And I think, personally, he should’ve been executed for that.

I feel like people like Nancy Grace, Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson are doing more harm to our society than a thug who kills innocent dogs, but that is another argument for another day.

But Tucker Carlson really got off on me.

Equating the killing of an animal is not the same as the killing of a human.  These PETA and Humane Society of the United States folks need to get a grip on reality.

Why didn’t Donte Stallworth get 2 years in federal prision?  Driving drunk, Stallworth killed a pedestrian.  What Does Tucker Carlson think is an appropriate punishment for Stallworth?

Capital punishment should be reserved for people like Gregory Favors, who is a lifelong leach on society who has a rampant history of violent crime and drugs, and recently slipped through the cracks of the system and killed a Georgia State Trooper over the holidays.  It should be reserved for people like Brian Nichols, the 2005 Atlanta courthouse shooter.    It is a controversial issue because IDIOTS like Tucker Carlson make idiotic statements that Vick should have been executed, and it makes the whole argument look silly.
