Well, they are at it again. The New York Yankees have signed Andruw Jones to a one year, $2 million contract for 2011.
Andruw will fill in as a right handed back up to lefty Brett Gardner. He will be a serviceable back up, but being with his 5th team in as many years, a once promising career is now starting to drag out.
Has Andruw Jones had a HOF career?
For me, I say no. I know he won 10 consecutive Gold Gloves, and was a vital part in the Braves organization. He has 407 career round trippers. But a normal person without performance enhancers doesn’t go from 29, 51, 41, 26, 3, 17, 19 home runs over a seven year period. That isn’t quite a Sammy Sosa or Rafeal Palmeiro type jump, but a drastic rise and fall nonetheless.
We can’t say for sure if Andruw did the juice or not. I personally think he did. But either way, becasue of the steriod era, I think a once promising career won’t be recognized in Cooperstown.
